Participation in 3rd Asia-Pacific Space Generation Workshop (AP-SGW 2016)

12 – 13 November 2016 – In conjunction with the 23rd Asia Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum (APRSAF-23), the Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC) along with the National SPACE Development Program (NSDP) of the Philippines have organized the 3rd Asia-Pacific Space Generation Workshop (AP-SGW 2016).

The program is a two-day regional workshop for university students and young professionals in the Asia-Pacific region. It is held at the University of the Philippines, Los Baños, Laguna, Philippines, one of the seven constituent campuses of the nation’s premier university system on the 12 - 13 November 2016.

The importance of cooperation in the field of space is tremendous with the establishment of satellite technologies and launching facilities, and space emerging economies, thus, AP-SGW aims at engaging tomorrow's space sector leaders in the region.

The workshop provides an ideal platform for delegates to have the opportunity to voice their opinions, exchange ideas on these pertinent issues, and network. The working group topics are,

  • The Future of GNSS in the Next Ten Years
  • Space Diplomacy: Bridging the Divide
  • Agricultural Applications of Space Technology
  • Asia Pacific’s Economic Priorities in Space
  • Talent Development to Sustain a Space Era

Apart from developing innovative policy recommendations on crucial space issues through the brainstorming during the workshop, the SGAC also fosters a unique environment of students, young professionals, academia, agency and industry.

The goals of the program are,

  1. To strengthen the regional network of the students and young professionals in the Asia-Pacific Region;
  2. To examine and consider key questions in Asia-Pacific region that the regional space community is facing and to provide inputs from the next generation of the space professionals;
  3. To allow tomorrow’s space sector leaders in the Asia-Pacific region to have the opportunity to interact with today’s space leaders in the region through the cooperation with APRSAF.

AP-SGW 2016 aims to enhance focus on the key Asia-Pacific region, through inclusive participation, which is the largest growing space region in terms of space technology utilization and development and through AP-SGW, SGAC aims to encourage the engagement of the next generation on the topic of promoting Asia-Pacific regional collaboration in the space sector – the next generation perspective.
