USM-MRSM STEM COMPETITION

Penang, 26 Nov 2016 – Northern Region Engineering and, Science and Technology Youth Program held The Youth Industry Bootcamp (YIB) Programme which gathers young talents from the schools. This is a platform that instils in them the interest and to understand the essentials of science for future demands. YIB 2016 which was involved by 108 secondary-school science stream students from schools in the northern region here recently.

Winner 1st place for technology session

Students of Maktab Rendah Sains MARA (MRSM) Merbok in Kedah were given opportunity for almost 3 month to do their experiments and development new project courtesy of the School of Aerospace Engineering of University Sains Malaysia. The project with the title “Development of Lab-Scale Analyzer for wastewater treatment” was successfully complete where this project give an impact for sustainability.

Top 6 over 36 group for best innovation awards (finalist)

The project supervised by Dr Elmi Bin Abu Bakar, involved 3 form 4 students of MRSM Merbok who were guided by post-graduate researchers from Instrument system and innovative group (ISI) of Aerospace Engineering, technical staff from PPKAERO and PPKEE USM. Instead of winning the competition, this project with the hope that they would become inventors and innovator in the future.
A competition was held for the duration of the programed, beginning on 28 May 2016 – 26 November 2016. The students from 18 selected schools was chosen and divided into 36 projects that were proposed from universities researchers and industrial. The project propose based on science ,technology ,Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

Also present at the ceremony were the CEO of Collaborative Research in Engineering, Science & Technology (CREST), Jaffri Ibrahim; Director of MARA Secondary Education Division (BPM), Abdul Hamid Ahmad; industry representatives and other attendees.
Their physics teacher, who supervises them was glad that all her charges were very enthusiastic about the projects and the opportunities to them expose in real research work and facilities given. All the students will be focusing on their studies for SPM next year.
