🚀 AEROSTEAM 2025 LAUNCHES AT THE AEROSPACE DISCOVERY CENTRE!
29 Oct 2025 - The sky was alive with excitement today as AEROSTEAM 2025 officially took flight at the Aerospace Discovery Centre, USM Engineering Campus!
Funded by MMK Sains dan Teknologi, Kerajaan Negeri Pulau Pinang, this inspiring initiative takes off through a strong collaboration between the School of Aerospace Engineering USM, Pejabat Pendidikan Daerah Seberang Perai Selatan, and the USM RC Plane Club.
What began in 2023 as a small, internal paper wing challenge by the USM RC Plane Club has now soared to greater heights. After receiving a STEM grant from the Penang Education Council in 2024, AEROSTEAM 2025 continues its journey with even bigger support and recognition, bringing together 16 secondary schools from across Seberang Perai Selatan to compete in four thrilling categories — Distance, Endurance, Accuracy, and Creativity.
AEROSTEAM stands for Aero Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics — a platform where learning meets imagination, and innovation takes flight. Today’s session featured engaging briefings on the theory of flight, an exciting paper plane workshop, and a full tour of our Aerospace Discovery facilities, where participants explored the iconic Wasp Helicopter, Aermacchi Jet, and CH750 Experimental Airplane inside the USM Hangar.
The journey doesn’t stop here — the participants will return on 19 November to face the real challenge in our fully equipped hall, where the four competition categories await. With weeks to prepare, we are confident these young innovators will come back ready to give their best performance and thrust their handmade planes to soar further, longer, and more creatively than ever!
It was truly a remarkable day — one filled with energy, curiosity, and inspiration. Watching these young minds test their handmade planes, we witnessed not just paper gliders in the air, but the future engineers of tomorrow taking their first steps into the world of aerospace.
