AEROSPACE ENGINEERING STUDENT WINS CHANCELLOR'S GOLD MEDAL AWARD 2012
Our student, Azlan Shah Abdul Jalil who will be graduating this year, has won the Chancellor’s Gold Medal and Malaysian Council of Rulers Excellence Medal (indigenous category) awards.
The Chancellor’s Gold Medal award is the most prestigious recognition given annually by the USM to its best overall undergraduate student. The criteria of selection is based on the following : excellence in academics (CGPA of more than 3.5), extensive participation in extra-curricular activities such as sports and the arts, contributions to the society and leadership characteristics. The selection of the Chancellor’s Gold Medal recipient is conducted within a special committee at the university level chaired by the Vice Chancellor of USM.
During his four year education here at USM, Azlan Shah is awarded the Dean’s list in almost every semester. As a person, Azlan is a sharp and intelligent student who always thinks out-of-the-box. In terms of social attributes, Azlan is active in various extra-curricular and social activities. He has participated and lead in many activities such as Annual Athletics Carnival, Chancellor’s Cup Debate, Student Representative Council and also involved in every activity organized by Desasiswa Jaya .
This is the first time a student from School of Aerospace Engineering to havewon this prestigious award and the second time for a student from engineering campus. This award comes with a certificate and cash that is sponsored by the University, and most importantly the honor to give a farewell speech during USM’s convocation ceremony.
Meanwhile, USM has awarded Chang Wei Shyang (CGPA 3.86) as the best student in the School of Aerospace Engineering . This award is given to him as the best graduate of 2012 in the school based on purely academic achievements.
