Welcome to the School of Aerospace Engineering at the Universiti Sains Malaysia!
Our staff and students share a mutual passion for aerospace vehicles together with the scientific principles and engineering technology behind them. These aerospace vehicles include drones, aircrafts, helicopters, spacecrafts and satellites.
The four-year undergraduate program at USM aerospace is very competitive and is accredited by the Board Engineers of Malaysia (BEM), which is one of the signatories of the Washington Accord. We extensively practice Outcome-Based-Education (OBE), applying active teaching and learning methods on a wide range of courses from aerodynamics, aircraft structures, flight stability and control to aircraft and spacecraft design. On the other hand, our Masters and PhD education focus on research discoveries having a substantial impact to the aerospace knowledge or that of solving specific problems within the local industry or society. Some of the popular research topics are Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) algorithm and technology developments, nano-satellite technology and design, Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) for aerospace manufacturing, and ‘green’ propulsion.
As a member of the Malaysian Aerospace Industry Association (MAIA), we are constantly engaged with the industry and seeking feedback from them to improve our curriculum. More importantly, this platform keeps us abreast with the current trends in the aerospace industry. It is our commitment to ensure that our students are highly employable. We provide them with a strong theoretical knowledge, adequate hands-on experience, and relevant skill-sets together with lifelong learning abilities to adapt to ever-changing future needs. As a result, our graduates are preferred by the aerospace or aerospace related industry and some have become renowned faculty members in various academic institutions.
