Dr. 'Aiffah Mohd Ali


Dr. Aiffah’s journey in the engineering world began with pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Communication Engineering at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) (2002-2006). She then went on to pursue a Master's degree in Electronic Systems Design Engineering at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) from 2011 to 2013. Her passion for research led her to the University of Bath, United Kingdom, where she embarked on a PhD journey in Electronic and Electrical Engineering from 2014 to 2018. Currently, she serves as a senior lecturer at the School of Aerospace Engineering, USM, where she combines her love for engineering with her passion for teaching, inspiring, and mentoring future engineers.

Dr. Aiffah’s research interests span a wide range of areas, including Radio Frequency (RF) and microwaves, ionospheric scintillation, satellite communications, navigation and positioning systems, avionics systems, and the Internet of Things (IoT). Throughout her academic journey, she has secured one national grant and two university grants, showcasing her capability in research. She has also made significant contributions to academia, with publications in journals and several conference papers.

In addition to her academic endeavors, she is actively involved in supervising graduate students. She has successfully guided two master’s students to graduation and currently supervises one PhD student and two master’s students as the main supervisor. She has also engaged in consultancies with notable organizations, collaborating with Spirent Communications, United Kingdom, on Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) research since 2018. Furthermore, she served as a consultant engineer for the development of satellite technology in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites at Angkasa X Innovation Sdn Bhd in 2021.

In her teaching role at USM, Dr. Aiffah has made substantial contributions to education. She teaches courses on Spacecraft Subsystem Design, Avionics Systems, Satellite Communications Systems, and Aerospace Laboratory, incorporating innovative teaching methods.

Beyond academia, Dr. Aiffah is dedicated to community outreach, with a focus on promoting STEM education, and is passionate about mentoring future aerospace engineers.
