Programme Overview
The Bachelor of Aerospace Engineering with Honours programme offered by the School of Aerospace Engineering, USM is a four-year full-time programme comprising eight semesters. Its curriculum and teaching and learning (T&L) activities are designed to achieve the programme outcomes (POs) and competencies outlined by the Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC), based on inputs from relevant stakeholders.
The curriculum integrates core and specialized aerospace engineering knowledge in a balanced learning environment. Fundamental engineering principles are covered in the first and second years, followed by advanced aerospace engineering subjects in the third and fourth years. Students may further specialize through elective courses offered in the later years. The curriculum progressively develops from basic engineering science to integrated engineering studies and projects, emphasizing professional engineering practice and the application of fundamental and advanced knowledge.
The programme also develops students’ awareness and competencies in non-technical areas such as sustainability, ethics, communication, management, finance, and lifelong learning, preparing them to face future engineering challenges as global citizens. Graduates are equipped with the knowledge and competencies required for registration as Graduate Engineers with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) and are prepared to pursue Professional Engineer status.
The curriculum structure consists of core, elective, and university courses. Students must complete 108 units of core courses and at least four elective courses (12 units) approved by the School of Aerospace Engineering (SAE). In addition, students are required to complete 15 units of non-technical university courses covering language, philosophy, ethics, entrepreneurship, co-curricular activities, skills, or foreign languages. To graduate, students must complete a minimum of 135 units and obtain a Pass grade for all courses.

Course Structure
For each academic session, undergraduate students are required to register for the courses distributed across two semesters, namely Semester 1 and Semester 2. Courses are examined in the same semester as they are offered. These courses are categorized into four levels, via levels 100, 200, 300 and 400, suitable for the requirements of a four-year study programme.
