PROGRAMME OF TUT USM

20 December 2016, USM – President for Toyohashi University of Technology (TUT), Professor Takashi Onishi paid a courtesy visit to School of Aerospace Engineering University of Science Malaysia on December 20. On their arrival, A delegation together with the Prof. Dato’ Dr Muhamad Jantan (Deputy Vice-Chancellor) received warm welcome from Dean of USM Aerospace Engineering and faculty staff.

TUT Programme

The visit was part of the collaboration of transdisciplinary research program between USM and TUT. The program’s name as ‘Tools for Heavy Metal Mitigation: Detection and Removal from the Environment’. There are 5 projects under this program which are to be led by researchers from USM (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zainovia Lockman, Assoc. Prof. Dr Khairunisak Abdul Razak, Assoc. Prof. Dr Asrulnizam Abd Manaf, Dr Yeoh Fei Yee and Dr Elmi Abu Bakar) and TUT. More than 10’s post-graduate students turned up to completely the research project with a duration of 5 years (April 2016 – Mac 2021). The projects require preliminary investigations and involving post-graduate students from both USM and TUT as to enhance the collaboration between the two universities. The output through this project was envisaged from co-supervision of post-graduates, co-authors in publication or books, mobility of researchers including post-doctoral and faculty staff. Moreover, the program will induce some industrial linkages in between the academicians and industry both in Japan and Malaysia.

Dean of USM Aerospace extended his welcome to delegation visit for Instrumentation System and Innovative (ISI) Laboratory. Dr Elmi Abu Bakar as a project leader from USM Aerospace introduced the project of ‘Instrumentation development for monitoring heavy metal discharge’ on progress research since the project was begin in April 2016.

 President of TUT expressed his gratitude for the warm reception to the Dean of USM Aerospace. Then he gave an overview of research collaboration program and scientific research of USM and TUT and expected more cooperation will be carried out as to aimed sustainable development for both universities.

The delegation then took a tour of university facilities, including School of Materials and Mineral Resources and Collaborative Microelectronic Design Excellence Centre, USM.
