On April 1st , Wau Rocketry USM in conjunction with RC Plane Club, Drone Club and AeroSoc from USM School of Aerospace Engineering hosted their first event since the pandemic, which was initiated with the motive of giving exposure to the School of Aerospace students on the existence of the clubs after being inactive during the pandemic.

Aero Open Day was open to all students in USM and approximately 100 students were welcomed.

During the event, the students were exposed to all the clubs and participated in some games to spice up the event.



During the day, event participants were greeted with exciting exhibitions from each club and participated in two games which were the Paper Wing and Water Rocket Competition. They even had the chance to see a demo of a low-powered rocket launch. The whole event lasted half a day, rolling up the curtains right before evening came about.

The keynote speaker was Vanmitha Athimoolam, Director and Founder of Wau Rocketry USM. Vanmitha spoke about the history of the club and how it transformed from a small team to a very well-constructed team. She also addressed the club’s ultimate goal which is to be a platform for USM students to gain real technical and soft skills that makes them stand out in the industry world.


At the conclusion of the event, USM Deputy Vice-Chancellor, YBhg. Prof. Azlan Amran; School Of Aerospace Dean, Prof. Dr. Farzad bin Ismail both gave an inspiring speech to the students and were on hand to officiate Wau Rocketry as an official club. Lastly, the day ended with a photography session with the VIPs and the participants altogether.
