AEROSTEAM 2024: Inspiring Young Innovators through Hands-On Learning in Seberang Perai Selatan
On 6th November 2024, students from the Seberang Perai Selatan District took flight into the exciting world of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) through AEROSTEAM 2024. Held at the Badminton Hall, Sport Complex, Kampus Kejuruteraan, Universiti Sains Malaysia, this hands-on event was organized by the USM RC Plane Club, the School of Aerospace Engineering, Penang Science Cluster, and Pejabat Pendidikan Daerah Seberang Perai Selatan, aiming to inspire secondary school students to explore the endless possibilities of STEAM.
AEROSTEAM 2024 stood out with its unique, interactive challenge that engaged participants in designing and flying paper planes. Students competed in three thrilling categories: *Furthest Distance*, *Longest Flight Time*, and *Most Accurate Landing*, each requiring a different approach to aerodynamics, precision, and skill. The event offered a rare blend of theoretical and practical learning, enabling students to experience STEAM in a way that was both educational and exciting.
Through hands-on challenges, students had the opportunity to apply principles of physics and engineering in real-time. Under the guidance of aerospace experts and STEAM educators, they experimented with wing shapes, weights, and angles to improve their planes’ performance, fostering problem-solving skills and creativity. This event showcased the dedication of local organizations to making STEAM accessible and engaging, empowering students with the knowledge and confidence to pursue interests in technology and innovation.
AEROSTEAM 2024 not only created a platform for students to challenge themselves but also inspired the next generation of innovators, setting the stage for a bright future in Malaysia's STEAM landscape.
