Welcome back!

AEROSTEAM 2025 is back with new challenges.

Activity 1: Briefing and Visit to USM

Date: 29 October 2025
Day: Wednesday
Time: 2.00 – 5.00 pm
Venue: Aerospace Discovery Centre, Hangar, School of Aerospace Engineering, USM.

Activity 2: Competition Day

Date: 19 November 2025
Day: Wednesday
Time: 2.00 – 5.00 pm
Venue: Dewan Serbaguna Kampus Kejuruteraan USM.

Rules & Regulations

1. Participants will receive two A4 size paper, pre-printed with the RC Plane Club logo.

2. The use of any materials beyond the provided paper (e.g., tape, glue, staples, etc.) is strictly prohibited. Any use of additional items will result in immediate disqualification.

3. Participants are allowed to use folding techniques only. Cutting, tearing, or altering the paper in any other way is not permitted.

4. Planes must be built on-site within a 10 -minute time limit. No pre-built planes are allowed.

5. Participants are allowed to bring their own folding instructions or design plans, but the plane must still be built on-site within the given time.

6. Planes must be launched by hand, by one person, from behind a designated throwing line.

7. The plane must remain within the designated flight path. Any deviation from the flight path will result in the throw being disqualified.

8. Before each throw, competitors must present their paper plane to the judges for inspection to ensure it complies with the rules (no modifications or additional materials).

9. Crossing the throwing line during the launch will result in disqualification of that throw. The release of the paper plane and the participant’s hand or arm may extend over the start line.

10. Each participant is allowed only one trial and one attempt for the throw

11. Organizing team will record all competition rounds for documentation and verification purposes. These recordings may be used to review results or resolve any disputes that arise during judging.

  1. Longest Distance Category
  • The longest distance will be measured in m/mm by measuring tape
    • The throw must remain within the designated flight path.
    • The distance will be measured from the designated throwing line to the point where the paper plane first touches the ground.
    • In the event of a tie, a re-throw may be conducted for the participants involved.

2. Longest Airtime Category

  • Longest Airtime Category
    • The timer will be started when the paper plane is released from the participant’s hand.
    • The timer will be stopped at the moment when the plane first touches the ground
    • A running start and jumping are allowed as long as the participant is jumping from the ground. In other words, no standing on chairs, tables or ladders.
    • The plane must remain within the designated flight path throughout its flight.
    • The longest air time recorded will determine the winner of this category.
    • In case of a tie, the judges may require a re-throw to establish a clear winner.

3. Landing Accuracy Category

  • The landing point of the plane will be marked, and the distance from this point to the centre of the designated target will be measured.
    • The plane must land within the designated flight path.
    • The scoring will be based on proximity to the target, with points awarded based on the following criteria:
      • 0 cm from the target = maximum points.
      • Incremental Points Deduction: Points will decrease based on the distance from the target
  • In the event of a tie, the judges will determine the winner based on the next closest landing

4. Creativity Category

Participants explain their paper plane design and folding process to the judges

Evaluation based on:

I. Design concept (explain folding idea and purpose)

II. Neatness (appearance)

III. Durability after flight

IV. Confidence in presenting (show enthusiasm about the design)
